The internal stereo speakers handle music with the aplomb dealing with everything from the delicate strings of orchestral performances to the heavy bass of a rock song without compromise or distortion. 4 out of 5 stars Sound quality and every station is available!   January 9, 2009
I purchased the black version but that was a personal choice. the review applies to both.
A little pricey but this gives access to all current forms of radio. It you cant get a station on this beauty then it doesnt exist!
You have trusty FM, quality DAB and the vast internet radio.
Most radio stations from around the world stream on the internet now so this gives you access to thousands! Even the stations that stream at a low bit rate sound magnificent on this Roberts.
The sound quality is what matters for me which is why I bought this. It doesn't disappoint.
The unit is a little smaller than it looks in photos but that is not necessarily a bad thing. Its small and light.
Although it has various alarms built in, I wouldn't use it as a clock radio as the display is bright and blue and not great if you like a dark room. It's best for the kitchen or study.
Ive got a few internet radios and this is the best. Most internet radios take an age to start up with buffering etc. the Roberts is super fast, i dont know how they do it but it starts playing the selected internet station almost immediately.
This is a true radio and will get you any station you want!

4 out of 5 stars lovely gadget, but the user interface isn't brilliant   December 29, 2008

Generally we're very pleased with our new toy. Bluegrass radio from New Orleans is worth the price of admission alone (that might just be me).

good points:

* sound quality (considering the unit's size)
* easy set up
* internet/DAB reception very good
* streamed MP3s from your PC works nicely - although its a little basic, no playlists or whatever, it just plays the files in a folder in whatever order they happen to be.

bad points:

* menu based UI is a bit clunky.
* you only have 5 presets for each of FM, DAB and Internet - you can add as many as you like to your 'favourites' list that you've created on their website, but you can't add/remove these from the radio itself - you need to use your PC. an irritating omission.
* seems quite expensive for what it is. we bought it with some gift money, but if it had been our own cash, 120 notes seems a lot for what is, when all's said and done, a little portable radio.

4 out of 5 stars Impressed   November 3, 2008

Wi-fi radio does not seem to be a settled technology, so this is a work in progress. But it's a good one.

True, you can't pause podcasts or 'listen again' feeds.
True, it's hard to connect to the mediaplayer - I have a Mac which connects to anything, but not this.
True it is prone to 'Network Error' messages, only sorted when you kill the power and start it up from scratch.
Programming favourites on a website is simple, but the interface at the radio end could be more simple.

But if you live in a poor signal area (I do) like listening to internet radio stations like radio paradise (I do) then this is a really good piece of kit.

2 out of 5 stars Nice Idea...what a pity it doesnt work !   October 16, 2008

The idea is great...the problem is the technology isn;t quite up to the job. They warn you in the instructions that you might get interuptions when the radio stops broadcasting for several seconds from time to time. They blame this on the radio stations. However we found that it happenend frequently and was very annoying. Also we found that it could only play about 20% of the music we had stored in the PC. When it worked it was great and the sound was very clear...but I'm afraid Im taking mine back...its not worth the money when you can get a radio for alot less!

5 out of 5 stars Absolutely fantastic   October 1, 2008

We got this mainly because we live in Tenerife and my wife wants to listen to The Archers without having to sit at the PC!

Got the radio today, followed the simple instructions to connect to our wireless Internet router, and that's it. The Archers came through loud and clear!! Incredibly simple to set up and works as advertised.

I then followed the instructions to be able to play files from Windows Media Player (v11) on my PC. Two minutes later I had Joan Armatrading being streamed wirelessly from my PC to the radio. Fantastic!

Obviously, I've only had it for a day and only used a couple of features, but for now it is a fantastic buy. Incredibly simple to setup and use.

The only small niggle I have is that the small screen is bright enough to light a room! You definately couldn't use this radio in a bedroom. The only way to turn the screen light off seems to be to disconnect the power. A little annoying but still worth five stars.
