Freecom MusicPal Internet Radio August 18, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
A very good gadget.
However it has a major drawback:
Be aware that it does not support Real media format (the only format used for all BBC Local Radio stations).
works for me August 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought a MusicPal when my old satellite receiver died and I lost access to some of my favourite stations. Installation to a bit longer than the promised 15 seconds, but then I had forgotten my network password!
It now lives in my hifi rack connected via RCA phono line out, and the sound quality is very good (at least equal to satellite).
It does alphabetise album tracks but there's a way around this. Instead of directly accessing an album in the library, go through the 'folders' option, and the album tracks are played in the correct order.
Compatability issues July 28, 2008 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Purchased this item and i have had to return it as it is not compatible with my Netgear DG834G router. Freecom support offered some very techie solutions including removing security and downloading updates for my router which would have meant hours of messing about with no guarantees of success!. Not impressed. Freecom's own support message board has a posting from someone with the same problem and no solution has been offered - says it all i think. The only reason it got one star was to get this review logged.
Does NOT support BBC stations outside of UK July 27, 2008 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
Thinking of buying this because you're an expat pining for the BBC radio stations? Choose a different product. The information on the web is quite confusing on this subject, so take it from someone who has just wasted over 100 euros on it. Yes, the Musicpal can now support WMA format (via a firmware upgrade), but if your ISP is outside of the UK you absolutely CANNOT get the main BBC stations. The reason: dear old Aunty doesn't make WMA-format available on non-UK ip addresses.(If you're feeling geeky, you could try to use a UK-based proxy server, but that means keeping a computer switched on, which kind of defeats the purpose of a stand-alone internet radio.) Bottom line: find a product with RealPlayer support.
How cool is this?!!! July 24, 2008 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I just love this gadget!! Connected to my home network and listening to perfect reception Classic FM 3 minutes out of the box! Love the scanner option - you can listen to Air Traffic Control in Toronto or the Las Vegas police department amongst others. Great toy, you'll love it!
