Forget DAB if you have wireless internet November 20, 2008 We moved away from London and found that we could no longer get a good clear reception of LBC so we had to listen on Sky which meant our TV had to be on in the bedroom and hated it because of the light from the TV screen
I bought Intempo because it was cheap and if I did not like I could send back. All I can say, FORGET DAB Radio, if you have wireless internet, get an Internet Radio the are the best thing.
I would have given 5 stars but for one thing, I found if my wireless SSID was hidden I could not get connection to the Internet, which for security I like to hide my wirelsss SSID. That is the only con for me.
Apart from that, it has an alarm and sleep function which is what we needed. We can no fall asleep and wake to LBC + loads and loads and loads and loads and loads of other stations from around the world!
A Few Tweaks Would Give It 5 Stars.... November 18, 2008 I've been playing around with this for an hour now and really enjoying the near limitless choice of stations and superb sound quality - I live in an area with poor DAB reception and have been used to a burbling sound on all DAB stations, this bit of kit gets around that nicely and without an obtrusive aerial. (although some stations are only available in 36kbps and the sound from these is terrible) I had the intempo hooked up to my wireless in less than 5 minutes, all you need to do is scan for your wireless network name then put in your WEP key and away you go. I thought the huge array of stations would make navigating them tricky, and it can be if you just rely on the radio browse stations - but if you register your radio with the reciva web site, you simply select your favourite stations on the web site and hey presto, they appear in a favourites folder on the radio! - A tailor made channel list which is very easy to browse. (Takes about 5-10 secs between selecting a station and the station playing) The listen again feature is fantastic. Some stations (pretty much ALL of the bbc stations) allow you to listen to previous broadcasts. So if you HATE the DJ who is on (eg George Lamb - imbecile) you can listen to a better show (eg Adam and Joe - genius), or just get your weekly fix of gardener's question time at any time. This missed out on 5 stars as some of the buttons could be improved. The scroll dial acts as the on/off switch when pressed, as opposed to 'select', which seems counter intuitive - i keep on turning the damn thing off when i want to select something! (i'm sure i will get used to it though...) Also, to get to your favourites folder takes 4 button presses and a bit of scrolling - surely a dedecated favourites button would've made this easier seeing as how using the favourites folder is probably going to be the most user friendly way of changing stations Would've been nice to be able to rip audio straight to a usb stick via the port, but i guess that could be open to abuse........ All in all really happy with this product despite a couple of fiddly niggles, but at the price amazon is selling this thing for can't really grumble, it's a bargain!
Excellent product for the money November 18, 2008 Simple to set up, thousands of station choices, BBC stations work well (unlike with some other similar products), never fails to find the wireless network, quite nice sound quality (if it was stereo I'd have given it 5 stars), channel changes are quick, never any audio glitches, and controls are simple to use. In summary, the best web radio I have owned and I wholeheartedly recommend it.
So good I bought another one November 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased one of these about two months ago and and was so impressed I decided to buy another for the bedroom. It is well worth registering with Reciva so that all your stations are listed under My Stuff so you don't have to remember the remote preset numbers. Set up is quite straight forward to connect to your wireless router, however a friend who bought one has had intermittent problems connecting to their wireless network, which can be solved by turning the power off and then on again where the radio will then scan for and detect the network and connect. I suspect that this is not a problem with the radio but a probem with the router,as has already been mentioned by a previous reviewer. For under 50 this is an excellent internet radio.
Excellent product November 12, 2008 I bought one of these last week. Setup was not difficult though putting in a long WPA key is tedious. As others have said it is worth getting a Reciva account and defining "my stuff" as this then appears on the radio. The sound quality is mono, but perfectly acceptable, I listen to talk radio, but even music is acceptable. Another nice feature is that "podcasts" are listed on the menus, so it is possible to listen to BBC offerings that have already been broadcast. Overall I am so impressed I have just ordered another one. A bargain at this price, what more can I say. Brilliant.
