5 out of 5 stars What a charmer!   October 28, 2008

Brilliant piece of kit, especially when connected to the Hi-Fi amp, giving perfect sound quality.

One niggle. Even with a new battery, the remote control only works from about 2 metres, and you have to peer at the front of the radio to read what it says, which makes the remote seem rather pointless. A more powerful remote with the radio screen duplicated would be the answer.

5 out of 5 stars Exceeded expectations   October 28, 2008

I bought the Roberts WM-201 for the Internet Radio capability and decided to spend more in the hope that it would supply a superior performance to some of the other cheaper models on the market. I must admit it has exceeded my expectations. The first thing that struck me was the quality of the build - this is a solid device - big enough to sit alongside other Hi-Fi units but portable enough to move around the house. OK it has to boot-up every time the mains is disconnected but one advantage is that the power unit is integrated so you can leave spare power leads plugged in wherever you will be using it. Once connected it delivers first-class sound - I listen to news channels from Germany, Spain and France and the quality is spot-on even on low bit-rate feeds (20kbits for instance on RNE Todo Noticias ) The bass/treble range is great on Radio 2 and you would think you had a BOSE unit in the house such is the quality of the sound. The only gripes I have are the small number of presets (12 manual, 6 remote) and the fact that that when searching for stations by region, Spain does not appear in the list of European countries. I had to find the stream manually then program via the web site. As far as the media-player performance is concerned I have only scratched the surface - I'm sure there are better looking units out there but for Internet Radio capabilities this has been a very good buy - just ensure that your monthly bandwidth allowance from your ISP is up to it.

It looks good.More importantly it sounds great.Internet radio opens up a whole new world of 'radio'-whether that be emergency services from U.S or listen again facilities from B.B.C-there is a HUGE amount to choose from. What a difference to D.A.B!I can only highly recommend internet radio another fine product from Roberts-they rarely fail to impress.

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant!   September 30, 2008

I've only just received the radio so haven't full investigated it yet.

But so far - wow! I thought I'd stumble at the first hurdle i.e. connecting it to my network, but no. The manual's guidance was excellent but hardly necessary really, since it's quite intuitive to set up.

The manual even told me how to create a shared folder on my PC so that I could access my iTunes.

The box looks smart, with no clutter, and most importantly of all it sounds great. Can't wait to get surfing all those radio stations out there...

I'd recommend this product to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars Roberts WM201 - Internet Radio   September 4, 2008

I have used the Bush TR2015 internet radio for about 2 years. Internet radios are brilliant for accessing all of the BBC's listen again programmes (now called i Player) In fact we have 3 Bush TR2015 radios in the house.

When one of the Bush radios packed-up I took the opportunity to buy the Roberts WM201.

This radio is beautifully built and lovely to look at - everything enclosed in a piano-black (wooden ?) case. The display looks great - larger than I was used to on the Bush radio which means more information on the screen without having to wait for the information to scroll past. One drawback is that the display -even on the dimmest setting- is slightly too bright for comfort as a bedside radio.

I also liked the fact that it had a 'normal' power lead without the horrible bulky transformer on the end which takes up so much space on the wall socket.

I was absolutely amazed by the sound quality - at top volume, there was no distortion and the sound was clean and crisp. This prompted me to connect the WM201 to stream music files from my computer - wirelessly. I am not a computer boffin and I managed to do this without even having to ask for help from my 17 year old son ! I did have to go into the microsoft media player and under the library tag, ensure that I had ticked the box allowing the files to be shared. I also had to get my firewall to accept the Roberts.

The hi-fi quality sound from the Roberts is such a pleasure that it has now ruined the Bush radios for me - I shall certainly be buying a second to use in the drawing room. I had been considering a dedicated iPod docking station, but the Roberts does the job - So I can justify the cost of a second WM201 with the saving I'll make by not having to buy an iPod or docking station!

If you have never listened to internet Radio - make sure you do - the quality is as good (if not better than) Dab - It is the future of Radio !
