Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
Horror maestro Tom Holland (Fright Night) brought wit and devilish energy to this 1988 scarefest about a murderer (Brad Dourif) who wills his soul into an innocuous doll named Chucky, and reveals himself only to the toy's owner, a frightened little boy. Catherine Hicks plays the child's mother, and Chris Sarandon a detective; neither of them knows what to make of the kid's story. Monster-doll stories are always wonderfully surreal, and Child's Play is no exception. Holland oversees some finely tuned special effects that allow Chucky to express himself and do some damage--it is truly unnerving but somehow good, subversive fun. --Tom Keogh

1 out of 5 stars terrible   December 14, 2008
If the film were better executed, even James Bond would have hidden under the floorboards. However it wasn't. It was excruciatingly banal.

3 out of 5 stars I wouldn't called this movie a classic but It's very good movie   November 17, 2008
This may contain spoilers I've Already see Child's Play 2, 3 and Bride of chucky before I saw this movie. It starts of with cop Detective Mike Norris chase The serial killer Charles Lee Ray through the streets of Chicago & into a toy store where Ray realises that having been shot so he performs a Voodoo ceremony that transfers his soul into the a 'Good Guy' doll

Andy want good guy doll for his Birthday after seeing the Advert then Andy is disappoint when Karen didn't buy the good Guy Doll. Karen is going to buy a The Doll after work, Then her Friend tell her she can get much cheaper Price and then she buy it, which happen to be the one that Charles Lee Ray transfers his soul into (A little silly).

Karen goes out one night and leaves Andy with a Auntie Maggie who end being killed by Chucky but we see her death but they don't show chucky. Soon Chucky start to kill more people, Andy was found at the Crime scene again Mike Think Andy was part of the Murders then Andy tries to tell them that chucky is really but no one believe Him. When Karen gets home and Soon Find out that Andy as been telling the Truth,

Which we finally See Chucky talking, Swearing and moving, this is where the movie shines with The car scene was Great and Creepy and The Voodoo Doll Death was favourite part of moving as it was hard to watch. I little disappointed with this as it start of really slow, we never saw chucky talk until 45 minutes in to moving after that scene the movie action packed until end,

I wouldn't called this movie classic but It's very good movie, I would recommend it to any horror fan.

1 out of 5 stars PIRATE COPY   November 1, 2008
l have bought of amazone quite alot things, but this DVD was rubish,
it looked liked a pirated copy wavy lines, shimmering and every thing else that goes with this very cheap and nasty copy,
we did watch it the film itself was very funny in parts, nothing realy frightening in it lots of blood but no police showed up ( must have been a coffee break) even though screaming in hospital, all in all l thought it very funny, maybe because l am 72 years old and it takes more than this film to frighten me.

5 out of 5 stars The original and best   May 11, 2008

The original chucky film and still the best. I first watched it when I was 9 and it was an instant hit. I recently bought it on DVD and I still think it's an old classic. It would have been great as a stand alone horror film, but childs play 2 and 3 and the bride and seed of chucky films were taking the whole chucky saga too far.

5 out of 5 stars The original and still the best   March 24, 2008

All the films in the Child'splay series are great but the first one is the only one that actually scared me. Brad Dourif who does the voice of Chucky is fantastic, his one-liners are partly the reason the film is in my top 10 favourite films. Buy this now!
