3 out of 5 stars The hamster is back...... with a challenge!   January 7, 2009
Richard presents this interactive DVD which is quite short, but quite fun. With two 5 minute clips, the stunts are a bit low. The stunts are blowing up vans (Interactive), trying to make a car fly, bungee jumping with caravans (Interactive), and a race between a bowler wildcat and a motorbike. There are seven rounds. 'One white van man and his dog', where you have to blow up 2-4 out of 5 vans, while trying to avoid Richard and his dog. '30 years of top gear' is where you are shown a clip of top gear and you have to answer what year that clip was from. Other rounds are 'Dashboard Difference', 'Bunch of stunts', 'Cara bungee' and 'Golden Anorak'. The two 5 minute clips come in between 'Dashboard Difference' and before 'Cara bungee'. You can either play on your own as 'Billy no mates' or with other players in 'Head to head'. In 'Head to head' you have to have a team name. You can choose from 'Team Stig', 'Team Hammond', 'Team Jeremy' or 'Team James'. 'Head to head' is better than 'Billy no mates', but you can still have fun playing on your own. An average DVD in fun and entertainment.

1 out of 5 stars Top Gear? Oh Dear...   December 26, 2008

This is an "Interactive DVD"... its not a TV show, and its certainly not a console-type game. It may try to be both, but it fails horribly.

There are seven rounds of activities on the disc, where you predict the outcome of pre-recorded (or random) events, watch a video clip and are awarded points based on how accurate your responses were. The final round is a multiple choice quiz... yawn.

While some of the ideas seem good (a caravan on a bungee rope) the results are something of a let-down. The caravan explosion is badly edited, shot from only one angle, is very short and there's not even a slow-motion replay. Some white vans also get the TNT treatment, but a few explosions isn't enough any more. Guess how many skittles stig will powerslide a car into? Yeah, the very short clip might be mildly amusing, (if he hits anything at all) but its nothing more than a guessing game. It didn't help that both sequences we saw featured cars missing all 5 skittles.

The best parts of the disc are the non-interactive "intermissions" between rounds. You get to see Hamster attempt to use the water pressure from 5 fire engines to lift a car high enough so you can see "whats causing the traffic jam up ahead". Unfortunately, the modifications to the vehicle that are required to acheive this make the whole scene come over as pointless rather than amusing.

This appears to have been disposable rubbish designed for the christmas "stocking filler" market. As evidence, the following text is printed on the back of the DVD case:

"And when you're bored of the whole thing you can always use the disc as an attractive drinks coaster or, if you're a minicab driver, something to hang from your rear view mirror."

Take note of that advice, and steer well clear of this waste of time. Just turn on the telly and watch any episode of Top Gear (or Brainiac) instead, its much more fun. Or buy something that isn't an "interactive DVD".

5 out of 5 stars Great game   November 17, 2008

I am an avid Top Gear fan and this year's interactive Title is fantastic, blowing up Vans, bungee caravans and my fav the power slide skittle challenge make for an awesome game. I have been bought this game as a birthday present and have played with family and friends all of whom have had a great time. If you love Top Gear and Richard Hammond then this is the game for you...

This game is brilliant and it's not just a game.
Its basically a Top Gear show with just Richard Hammond and Stig, with the fun of taking part in a couple of the challenges.
As well as the rounds like Carabungee and Powerslide skittles which cunjure up images which you won't be disappointed with, there are loads of new Top Gear style challenges such as Hamster racing a dirt bike in the Bowler, a car Top Gear fans will be familiar with.
There's loads of classic clips as well, and this DVD is a sure fire winner for anyone who loves Top Gear.
Utterly brilliant!
