Love the series December 12, 2008 I did not see this show on cable TV when it was on, but bought the box set because of the low price. I am very glad I did. I find the series extremely entertaining. It remains me of Forever Knight in ways. I love vampire shows, and this definitely is worth the watch. With my region free dvd player, I could get this from England and still watch it in the good old USA. Thanks for a great show. Wish there was a second season.
Fantastic price.! November 1, 2008 I didn^t watch this when it was on Living t.v. But tried the box set because of the fantastic cheap price. I^m glad I did. A better choice than Kyle Schmid should of been made for the lead Vampire role. Someone slightly older and more charismatic would of been better. But otherwise it^s good entertaining viewing. The box set is good picture/sound quality. Shame there^s no extras at all. Would of been nice to see behind the scenes. The question is now: Will there be a season 2 out on DVD box set in the future.?
I'm not really sure why I bought this but I'm glad I did October 9, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I mean, I saw the first couple of episodes on cable and thought it was okay, just, but never got around to watching any more. Basically I bought this on a whim because, for a 22 episode tv series, it was pretty cheap. Let's face it, you do this sort of thing from time to time.
So I started watching it and, as I remembered, the first couple of episodes were just okay but I persevered and I then I got it. The actors are perfectly cast. Christina Cox as Vicki Nelson is an appealing mature heroine, intelligent, dedicated, not conventionally pretty, with a strong character. Kyle Schmid is brilliant as the sometimes wittily camp vampire Henry Fitzroy, pretty, surprisingly effeminate albeit macho when he needs to be. Dylan Neal completes the triumvirate as the macho cop and Vicki's ex-lover. The sexual tension and wry dialogue between the three of them is just great.
There's also a good backup cast of characters: Vicki's pretty goth assistant, the pathologist who knows more of the dark side than expected, the female detective with a barely suppressed crush on Dylan Neal's detective, and so on.
As long as the stories keep moving (which they mostly do) who needs anything else?
This is solid entertainment which should have had a second season.
Utter rubbish October 9, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I really wanted to like this series but I gave up half way through. I couldn't like Vicki Nelson and Henry just irritated me.The subject matter was the usual Supernatural Demon/nutty Vampire/Voodoo curse formulaic tripe but done with no passion, no verve and no believability. How anyone could like this over "Moonlight" is beyond me, that series really explored the darker side of Human Nature and other far meatier issues yet the plug was pulled. Here's hoping that DVD sales mean that Moonlight gets picked up again whilst Blood Ties gets consigned to the bin of the truly awful book adaptations along with the Dresden Files.
Subtitles Please... September 1, 2008 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
There are absolutely ZERO subtitles in this box set. Be them english or otherwise. I found the series to be average and the acting really poor. But if you've nothing to do at least it's worth the 9,98 I payed for it but no more!!!
