1 out of 5 stars Atrocious. Not Even Worth Picking Up To Look At The Box.   October 29, 2007

'Halloween' is fantastic. It is a creative, beautiful and just tremendous 'Slasher Film' that John Carpenter crafted with excellence.
'Halloween: Resurrection' however, is just rubbish.
It's just a general waste of time.
Busta Rhymes? No thanks.
Jamie Lee Curtis? Yes please but lay off these diabolical sequals for your career's sake.

'Halloween: Resurrection' tells the tale of a group of teens who decide to stay over night at the Myer's family home, where the horrific murders of the original film take place, as part of a reality television sitcom about notorious murderers.
You can probably already tell it's going to be bad by the fact it's about a reality television show which lets face it, are the most pointless, mind-numbingly boring and just worthless television shows ever to be thought up of. Why in God's name would you want to sit and watch people doing exactly the same as you? It's just stupid.

This film has cursed the 'Halloween' franchise and I seriously do not recommend this film to anyone.

3 out of 5 stars Just watch the first 15 minutes!   October 10, 2007

'Halloween Resurrection' is the eighth part of the long-running Halloween series and Michael Myers has returned yet again to brutally murder another group of ill-fated teenagers with his unusually large kitchen knife and various other sharp objects. This time round, an internet-based broadcast company (lead by Busta Rhymes) is about to show a live feed from within the abandoned Myers' house where the group of unfortunates, fitted with head cameras, must spend Halloween night there and gather clues to why Michael did what he did all those years ago. Little do they know that the real Michael Myers is in the house with them.

It all sounds like it could be a good film with a new twist to the usual formula, but unfortunately it is poorly executed with bad acting (especially from the very irritating Tyra Banks), rubbish script and annoying and cheap camera-work (mainly from the head cameras). The film actually begins very well before all of this happens, where Michael visits the mental institution where Laurie Strode (the lead character from some of the previous Halloween films) has been staying since after H2O and attempts to finish her off for good. If this had of been the basis of the whole film it would have been a winner but it goes rapidly down-hill once this scene is over.

Overall this is a poor addition to the series that was trying to make the most of the personal camera theme that was very popular at the time in the horror genre, with other films like The Blair Witch Project and My Little Eye successfully pulling it off, but it really doesn't work here. I've given this film 3 stars only for the first 15 minutes (the Laurie scene) as this does finish off that storyline very well, but the rest of the film would have to be given a 2/5 at the most.

5 out of 5 stars In our virtual world what is reality?   July 31, 2007

John Carpenter is always just as good as good can be because he knows his trade and he knows how to pull the strings that are going to frighten us, terrorize us or just gross us out, and there are many strings that must not get entangled. And they don't. The main point with Carpenter is that he manages to produce and set up some crucial moments when we don't know who is who and where we are, in reality or in virtuality, in a real murder or in a fake hoax. And that is when we get over the limit and manage to believe the unbelievable. Carpenter is also extremely good at keeping the film in dark shadowy half lights that are necessary for him to play on the depth of the picture and to hide what is going to come out of the dark without any due process of announcing itself. You must not look for any deeper or wider meaning, because there is none, except that we accept to be the eye of the camera, or we accept the camera to be our eye, hence we accept to be voyeurs inside a film that is itself a voyeuristic adventure since we capture the action through cameras and TV screen relayed onto the internet and a portable telephone. We are confronted to at least two if not three levels of voyeurism with the organizers of the first level becoming the direct victims of the adventure, and then the guinea pigs of these becoming the victims of the voyeuristic and exhibitionistic game they had accepted to get into. And even further the audience of these two levels on the Internet becoming themselves victims of the game because they believe it is a game even when it turns more than sour. It is the use of a portable telephone via an instant messenger that will enable this voyeuristic audience to become compassionate. And we, the voyeurs of Carpenter's film, are like innocent angels victimized by Carpenter and his tricks and what's more we enjoy it and would like to see some more, so that we even know, accept, desire and enjoy the very last punch line that closes this film without closing Michael Myers' eyes: he is eternal because after all this is reality TV and not any virtual fable told by some perverse deranged greedy film director.

1 out of 5 stars A (busta) crime against humanity   April 13, 2007

Obviously looking at the rating I've given and the review title, you can tell I'm not a fan.

Now I know that horror movies are cliched and that these dumb things happen to these dumb people which would never happen in real life, BUT COME ON!! I was screaming in agony whilst watching this, and how EVERY CLICHE EVER MADE was introduced throughout the course of the film. If this was a tongue in cheek film it would get away with it. As it is, it tries to treat it seriously which just makes it even worse.

Overall, this film is god-awful. But there is one thing that really is the icing on this truly awful cake. Busta Rhymes.

Stick to rapping Busta, and steer clear of "Kung-Fu" or whatever he wants to call what he "used" in this film. It was just embarassingly bad and seemed to turn the latter part of the movie into some kind of "Busta is an actor, check me out!" awareness film.

If you PAID for a copy of this AND enjoyed it, then you should commit suicide right after you read this and click on the "this was useful" button.

Thanks for your vote.

1 out of 5 stars disapointing   May 21, 2006

i can't believe they killed of jamie lee. she was the main person throughout the whole halloween movies and to kill her off was unberlievable. there was no point in doing another movie in halloween h20 she clearly killed him by cutting off his head. it's nothing compared to the first halloween or h20 which gave a good storyline. this movie was a total waste of time i'd rather watch predator movies. this was one of the worst horror movies i have ever seen. i recomend watching any of the others especcially the first one which i think is one of the best horror movies ever. jamie lee curtis is worth more than 15 minutes especially when she kills herself the plot was so stupid as was the storyline. it was just so dissapointing.

THE END
